Logan Nonfiction’s 2019 Year in Review
The Logan Nonfiction Program supported 43 writers, documentary filmmakers, photojournalists and podcasters in 2019. Our fellows were selected from a pool of nearly 250 applicants and represented 20 different countries. They were at work on books, films, podcasts and multimedia projects covering everything from the troubled teen industry in the U.S. to extrajudicial killings in Central America to the refugee crisis across the world.
Our alumni published seven books and released one documentary film this past year. Among many alumni accomplishments, Jacqueline Olive’s film, “Always in Season,” won a Special Jury Award for Moral Urgency at Sundance; Patricia Evangelista won a Global Shining Light Award; and Nanjala Nyabola’s book, “Digital Democracy, Analogue Politics,” appeared on the Foreign Affairs Best Books of 2019.
We were also busy hosting industry and community events throughout the year, including a convening on impact in the nonprofit news industry, multiple events featuring visiting authors and filmmakers, and a new monthly nonfiction club held at our brewery.
