MISSION & WHAT WE DO

Our Mission

Time. Space. Community.

The Logan Nonfiction Program’s mission is to empower writers, documentary filmmakers, photojournalists and multimedia creators to complete the nonfiction that changes our world. Logan Nonfiction fellows are known for bravely revealing inequality, illuminating untold truths and investigating the most pressing issues of the day through long-form narrative.

Our History

The Logan Nonfiction Program was founded in 2015 with generous support from Jonathan Logan, the President and CEO of the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation. Jon believes the need for powerful narrative that speaks truth to power has never been greater. We all rely on journalists and documentarians to filter misinformation, ensure transparency and provide us with accurate and unbiased content. Yet, these same journalists and filmmakers are required to work with fewer resources, tighter deadlines and more pressure than ever before. Jon wants the Logan Nonfiction Program to fill a growing gap in the media landscape—the gap between the resources a news outlet or book publisher or film distributor can devote to long-form narratives, and the resources a journalist or author or documentary filmmaker needs. The time, space, mentorship and connections we provide can make the difference between a good story and a great one—or whether that story gets told at all.

Our Campus

Logan Nonfiction is based on the historic campus of the Carey Institute for Global Good in upstate New York. The Carey Institute is located on 100 pristine acres in Rensselaerville, NY — a small town on the edge of the Catskills, about 2.5 hours north of New York City. Our campus is home to several estate homes, an on-site gourmet restaurant and brewery, work spaces, a performance hall and documentary editing suites. We are surrounded by the Huyck Preserve, which provides several miles of hiking trails as well as a pond, lake and waterfall.
