Coronavirus Impact on Logan Nonfiction
Dear friends,
Our goal here at Logan Nonfiction is to empower writers, documentary filmmakers, photojournalists, podcasters and multimedia reporters to do the best work of their lives. Ensuring the health and well-being of our fellows is absolutely integral to this mission.
Over the past two weeks, the Carey Institute and Logan Nonfiction enacted numerous preparedness measures to do our part to stop the spread of the coronavirus. These measures included canceling our upcoming events, helping on-campus fellows make travel arrangements to safely return to their homes and postponing the spring class of Logan Nonfiction fellows who were scheduled to arrive this week. (Read full details on all the measures enacted here in a message from Gareth Crawford, Carey Institute president.)
As a result, campus is quiet. The only movement is from the dozens of deer that constantly roam our 100 acres. It’s a world away from what it’s like when our fellows are here: the lively dinners in the restaurant, the deep discussions around the fireplace, the busy typing on laptops throughout the days and the clinking of glasses at the brewery in the evenings.
While we’re looking forward to the day when we can welcome fellows to campus again and build the tight-knit community we’re known for, we recognize that we are all living through unprecedented times at this moment. We thank you for your patience, understanding and well wishes as we navigate how the coronavirus will impact Logan Nonfiction, the Carey Institute and our wider Rensselaerville neighborhood in the coming months.
Brave, honest, compelling reporting is still being made every day by incredible journalists around the world—including by our beloved fellows and alumni. Stay up to date with us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to see what our fellows are up to during this time. We are so thankful that journalism continues to be a guiding light through these times of darkness. Stay in touch.
All the best,
Carly Willsie
