Viv Li is a Chinese filmmaker, writer and comedian based in Berlin and Beijing. She is a Berlinale Talents, Nipkow Fellow, IDFAcademy Alumni and the recipient of the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. Viv holds a master’s in documentary directing from DocNomads and a bachelor’s in drama and films from the University of Manchester. Before turning to film directing, she was an active stand-up comedian and gained extensive experience in media by working with Vogue, Fashion One and arthouse films. In the past 10 years, she lived in various countries of Europe, South America and Asia, which gave her a unique point of view as a Chinese artist. Her most recent film,” I Don’t Feel at Home Anywhere Anymore,” received a Special Mention at International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), among seven other international awards. “All Our Night,” a short documentary set in Hungary, was nominated for the Silver Eye Award from the Institute of Documentary.
While a fellow at the Logan Nonfiction Program, Viv will work on her documentary feature debut, “The Two Mountains Weighing Down My Chest,” which aims to take a witty yet sharp look on how two polarized cultures and political systems are affecting the way we live, through the focus of sexual and gender exploration.
