Norah Shapiro
Norah Shapiro (2021) Norah Shapiro is a Minneapolis-based, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker. Her most recent film, “Time for Ilhan,” about the political rise of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, received Catapult Film Fund development funding, participated in the 2017 TFI/A&E Story Lab, premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and is currently available on streaming platforms. “Time for Ilhan” won multiple audience awards, was nominated for a 2018 NAACP Image Award for Best TV Documentary and received a 2018-2019 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing Special Class. She is a founding member of the Minnesota Chapter of Film Fatales. Norah is also currently producing several other projects including a documentary following the movement to re-imagine policing in Minneapolis following the murder of George Floyd. Norah’s work has been supported by Tribeca Film Institute, IDA Enterprise Fund, Catapult Film Fund, Jerome Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Hot Docs and others. She is a founding member of the Minneapolis Chapter of Film Fatales.
As a fellow, Norah, alongside Elizabeth Larsen, will work on the documentary “Magic and Monsters,” which uncovers the long-buried story of widespread sexual abuse at America’s preeminent children’s theater, which received 2020 IDA Enterprise Development and Production Grant support.
