Howard Amos
Howard Amos (2020) is a freelance reporter based in Russia. After five years reporting on economics and politics for The Moscow Times, he went freelance and worked for international media outlets including The Associated Press, Newsweek and The Guardian. He has reported from all over Russia, from the Far East to the North Caucasus and the Arctic, and has also spent time covering other countries of the former Soviet Union, and worked for four months in Ukraine during the country’s 2014 revolution. In 2017, he moved to London to complete his MA in Russian and Post-Soviet Politics at University College London while, at the same time, working as a senior editor for culture outlet The Calvert Journal. In 2019, he returned to Moscow, to continue to work as a freelance journalist. As well as writing for the Western media, he contributes regularly to independent Russian media outlet The Bell, and political analysis firm R.Politik.
As a Logan Nonfiction fellow, Howard will work on his book “Russia Starts Here,” which mixes reportage, travel and history to tell stories from a Russian heartland region.
