Alina Simone
Alina Simone is a journalist born in Soviet Ukraine and moved to the United States after her father was blacklisted by the KGB. She has written three books, as well as dozens of essays and long-form features, for national publications such as The New York Times, the Guardian Long Read, the Village Voice, Amazon Originals, NPR and Slate Magazine. She spent seven years as a regular contributor to National Public Radio International’s “The World,” scripting, recording and reporting more than 100 radio pieces. She has received grant support from Catapult Fund, Doc Society and Sara’s Wish Foundation.
As a fellow, Alina will work on her first documentary, which follows a reporter’s quest to outmaneuver a corrupt government and shine new light on the human cost of coal.
