Suzannah Herbert
Suzannah Herbert (2022) is a Memphis-raised and New York-based award-winning director and producer. She directed and produced the twice Emmy-nominated film, “Wrestle.” Named one of the top five documentaries of 2019 by the National Board of Review, lauded as “superb” by the Los Angeles Times, and hailed a New York Times Critic’s Pick, “Wrestle” was released by Oscilloscope Laboratories and PBS’s Independent Lens. Suzannah frequently collaborates as an editor on various Bob Dylan film projects, three of which won five Telly awards in 2021. She edited Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s 2022 Grammy-nominated music video, “I Get a Kick Out of You,” PBS’s “Great Performances: Tony Bennett & Diana Krall” and three episodes in The Root’s series “1300 Men: Memphis Sanitation Strike.” She is currently editing a vérité documentary, “Woman On The Outside,” directed by Zara Katz and Lisa Riordan Seville. Before directing her first feature, Herbert was the associate producer on Shola Lynch’s “Free Angela & All Political Prisoners” and an assistant editor on Netflix’s “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese.” Suzannah is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Herbert is the editor of “A Woman in the Outside,” directors’ Zara Katz and Lisa Riordan Seville’s feature-length vérité documentary. The film will have its world premiere at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival.
During the fellowship, Suzannah will be working on a feature documentary that explores Southern spaces, fantasy, collective history and the need to reframe American memory.
