Charlotte Graham-McLay
Charlotte Graham-McLay (2021) is a reporter based in Wellington who covers Aotearoa (New Zealand) for The New York Times and other international publications, including The Washington Post, Al Jazeera, the BBC and Vice. She was previously a New Zealand correspondent for the Guardian and worked at the national public broadcaster, Radio New Zealand, for nearly a decade in a variety of roles, including as a host of interview shows and a producer of long-form current affairs. Charlotte holds a Master of Journalism degree from Massey University, where she taught undergraduate journalism. She studied creative writing at Victoria University, Wellington, winning the composition prize for best undergraduate portfolio. Charlotte has frequently been a chair, interviewer and panelist at literary and arts festivals in New Zealand and Australia. She is a former fellow of the East-West Center’s Senior Journalists’ Seminar, exploring religion in public life and how to counter violent extremism.
As a fellow, Charlotte will work on her forthcoming book, a narrative account of the white supremacist terrorist attack on two Christchurch mosques in 2019 (Victoria University Press).
