Rensselaerville, N.Y. — The Logan Nonfiction Program is currently accepting applications from documentary filmmakers, journalists, podcasters, photojournalists and multimedia creators at work on a long-form project for its Fall 2021 virtual class of fellows. The program seeks to assemble a diverse and inclusive community of fellows working on socially relevant political, health, environmental, human rights and justice topics. This exclusively online fellowship offers professional guidance, panel discussions and community connection over a five-week session from October-December.
“We are looking forward to welcoming another group of courageous journalists and documentary filmmakers into our program,” said Program Manager Zan Strumfeld.
Applications for the Logan Nonfiction Program’s Fall 2021 class will be accepted until July 31. All long-form creators are encouraged to apply.
Questions should be directed to nonfiction@careyinstitute.org.
The Logan Nonfiction Program is able to offer this upcoming session largely due to a recent $50,000 grant from the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation.
“The Jonathan Logan Family Foundation’s continued support reaffirms their confidence in our program and its importance to those who benefit from the fellowship, especially after such a difficult year for journalists and documentarians,” said Carey Institute President Gareth Crawford.
To date, the Logan Nonfiction Program has supported over 200 independent journalists. The Logan Nonfiction Program was created with the intention of helping to fill the gap in the media-business landscape between the resources a news outlet or book publisher can devote to long-form narratives and the support a journalist or author needs. Providing individual journalists and filmmakers with the tools, mentors and community they need to finish critical works of nonfiction is not only essential to the continued production of these deep investigations, but it is also essential to the individuals, communities and democracy at large that these investigations serve.
Logan Nonfiction alumni represent more than 40 countries and include award-winning journalists and filmmakers including Daniel Ellsberg, Rania Abouzeid, Shane Bauer, Jessica Bruder, Jacqueline Olive and Soraya Sarhaddi Nelson.
