Abdelrahman ElGendy
Abdelrahman ElGendy is a former political prisoner in Egypt who spent more than six years behind bars, from October 6, 2013 until his release on January 13, 2020. He was arrested at 17, and left prison at 24. While in prison, he earned an engineering degree from Ain Shams University. He began publishing his writing on the independent Egyptian online newspaper Mada Masr from prison. He currently writes bilingually for Mada Masr Arabic and English, and Raseef22.
As a Logan Nonfiction Program fellow, Abdelrahman will work on a collection of essays documenting his experience as a political prisoner in Egypt.
